The wildebeest migration Starts in Masai Mara

The wildebeest migration Starts in Masai Mara
The wildebeest migration in Maasai Mara is now officially on, it has now entered the Mara! Though the migration of the wildebeests in Masai Mara is still in its’ initial stages, every indication shows that the stage is set for the world’s most fascinating wildlife spectacle.  Welcome and join the greatest world's wildlife arena… during Kenya safari. A herd of a few thousands wildebeests have crossed into the Mara at the border near Sand River Gate. They have been seen over the past one week taking their known traditional route towards the Roan hill. Some of the wildebeests have already moved all the way towards Hamerkop area. The Mara plains between Sand River, Roan Hill and Keekorok Lodge is teeming with the first herds that have moved into the area. This first lot of the wildebeests arrived about 6 days ago

Their movement however is slower because of the amount of grass in their way. Since May Maasai Mara have continued having intermittent rains which has made the plains covered in long green grass. This is expected to slow the wildebeest migration movement towards the north. Looking onto the Serengeti in Tanzania from Sand River, isolated herds of zebra and wildebeest heading north though reluctantly can be seen in large herds. It is anticipated this concentration to build up heavily as the herds push up north and finally into the Masai Mara.

Guides in Grumeti area of Serengeti in Tanzania, have reported that the migrating herds have taken two wings; one wing heading north from Grumeti area to the west and the other eastern wing is the one now moving into the Mara. A lot is now expected to happen in the following weeks and months as the wildebeests concentration intensify. You now should book your safari in Kenya and head into Masai Mara for the annual wildebeest migration viewings.

Mara River is expected to host the usual river crossings with the hungry crocodiles in wait to make a quick kill as the river surges.
